Track Layout

Marker distance

The Kip RunPacer is effective because it gives the runner a pacing beep whenever he has to pass a marker. The frequency of beeps combined with the closeness of the markers makes it easy for the runner to maintain his pace.

The default distance between markers is 10 meters. We recommend a marker distance of 5 meters for walkers and 20 meters for competitive runners.

If the same track is to be used for the whole range of runners, you might want to consider the following layout. Place the green markers 10 meters apart. Place a red marker between two green markers. Place a blue marker between the next two green markers. Place a red between the next two greens, etc.

The walker should listen for a beep whenever he passes any color. The jogger wants to hear a beep when he passes red and blue markers. The competitive runner should synchronize his beeps with the red markers (or the blue ones).

Formal tracks

If the inside perimeter of a track is a raised curb, the runner is expected to maintain a distance of 30 cm. between him and the curb. Thus, the track should be measured 30 cm from the curb

If there is no raised curb on the inside perimeter of the track, the track should be measured 20 cm from the inside border.

Non-formal tracks (parks, streets, etc.)

Measure along the line which the runner will follow.
